Officer Castillo and his family need your help!

While serving the citizens of Miami Beach, he responded to reports of a man standing in a crowded area by the popular restaurant Mango’s, waving a large butcher knife and threatening people. Chip, a 3 year veteran of the department, bravely responded with other officers to de-escalate the situation. While attempting to place the subject into custody after being tased, Officer Castillo was slashed multiple times with the butcher knife and sustained several injuries to his left arm and leg. As a result, Officer Castillo experienced significant blood loss as well as serious nerve damage. This sent the officer to the Ryder Trauma Center where he has already had to undergo several surgical procedures. Thankfully, Officer Castillo is in recovery; however he still has a long way to go before he can return to work. 

Officer Castillo and his girlfriend have a 9 month old boy and the two are expecting a baby girl in 2 months. As a result of the events that transpired on January 11th, Castillo’s girlfriend has to take time off from work in order to take care of him and their son, despite also being 7-months pregnant. This places a significant financial burden on the family as they will have several medical bills to pay as well as eventually 2 young children to provide for.
